Hmmm. Wonder if the return valve on the dashpot damper is sticking? Thatâ??d
pretty quickly pump out the oil.

For the SU experts ..
Have posted about this problem before? - and no, it has not gone away.Bought
new (not rebuilt) HD8 carbs from SU/Burlen about 7k miles ago.Problem is
excessive use of damper oil.Have to top up about every 1.5 tanks of gas
usage.Ultra careful about filling properly and to feel resistance about 1/2 in
above the thread.Have tried all grades of oil from 20 wt to thick gear oil with
no change apart from accel. response times. Currently using SAE 30 nd.SU have
no real ideas either. They are encouraging me to purchase new dampers - pn AUC
8112HB ... pricey too.
I am not convinced that will solve it but will do so.
There is some very minor scuffing on the valves. See photo. The pistons drop
freely and there is the classic clunk when raised 1/8 in.
Perhaps this is normal ? maybe other owners don't check their dashpots as
frequently ? heavier springs to limit movement ?
any ideas as to what gives most welcome ?rg
