FYI...
A great outgrowth of this years races will be the proliferation of links to
racers web sites. I referred several to Dan yesterday to update him on
their home pages. The links list on saltflats.com will jump after the next
events. I used to be asked if I had a fax number...now it's" do you have
E-mail?" Cards of the future will need to be written with computer coded
strips to get all the information on them. If they are going to follow Skip
Higginbotham's lead on lakester body length, there will be room to put every
racer web page location known on the side of the car. Of course, Skip says
"the car didn't know it was going to be a lakester until a week ago." His
web site is in 18" high letters on the car. Could be a virtual winter of
bench racing just going from site to site. With the laptop and accessories
I saw Sunday you could send pictures of the start of a run and updates going
down the course if you had the right cellular connection. This from a
package smaller than a box of Grape Nuts. GMC needed two 26" vans, a truck
bed full of electronic equipment and satellite links to Detroit for Don
Stringfellows record runs a few years back...today a laptop and safe
mounting.
