Check it out to see what happens when an inexperienced installer does a 'do
it yourself' job without thinking about the consequences of the decisions.

The heater on/off switch should not have been wired directly from the
battery (through a relay), the ignition switch and at least one redundant
toggle should have been installed. He should not have been able to
accidentally turn it on and not realize it for 2.5 hours without a lot of
weird coincidences.

The pressure switch should not have been downstream of a closed valve. The
switch saw no pressure, the heater had no reason to turn off.

The safety valve should have burst long before the bottle did. There has
been no confirmation that the owner had the blow-down tube installed by
someone who knew what they were doing. It would be very easy to forget to
remove the 'old' disk when installing the new one with the blow-down tube.
That would render the safety mechanism nearly useless....

He shouldn't have had 17 lbs. of nitrous in a 15 lb. bottle. The old
version of the website had that bit of information in it.

The sad thing is that NX has agreed to submit the entire bill to their own
insurance and seek reimbursement from the actual manufacturers of the
components. This should be quite clearly user error, but the negative press
was worth more than right and wrong.

If I ever make it to the salt, I promise not to sue the organizers if I roll
my car and break an arm because I did something stupid.

Dale
