Tom,
The book Louise wrote is the one Motorbooks International originally
intended for Dean Batchelor to write. He died before he completed The
American Hot Rod for them but it was down to final editing and apparently
didn't make much difference in the final result. I would have loved to see
him write the Bonneville book because of his insights and involvement with
what happened there from 1949 on.
A beautiful book on automotive art is Motoring; The Golden Years by Rupert
Prior. It covers the first fifty years of automobile art. Stan Wanlass
turned me on to that one among so many others. His web site is stanley
wanlass.com and shows his bronzes which are really great when you can just
touch and discover the little things that make them so collectable, and
expensive. Another great book is the Fifty Years of Road and Track ... with
quality reproductions of illustrations by some of the greatest automotive
illustrators of our time.
