I did a little lunchtime web surf.  This looks like a good solution to the 
opening shock snapping mounting points...

Look under "technical publications" at  "The Design and Development of New 
Emergency Parachute Canopies Utilizing the BAT Sombrero Slider(tm)"

It looks like a little mini chute sliding in the shrouds to keep the main chute 
from snapping open.  They claim it also speeds up inflation at low speeds.
