Hello list,

I got the December issue of Rod and Custom to check on the new flathead
engines and blocks.

They are 24 stud, front of block like 8ba, rear of block like 59a, the
blocks were cast between 1962 and 1990, have places for hour meter and
governor which can be blocked off, can use either the early front cover
with the front-mount distributor or the 49-53 type distributor, bore is 3
3/16 can go to 3 3/8 and maybe 3 7/16, made of cast steel, 30 pounds
heavier than original blocks, machining is clearly superior - core shift
should not be a problem, can use a 4 1/4 crank with 7 inch connecting
rods, factory block reliefs, standard valves 1.500/1.500, intake mounting
surfaces are slightly wider than on the original blocks, intake and exhaust
ports are a little different, main caps are slightly beefier, main-web
supports are stronger, blocks are cast different to solve the cracking of
the center head-bolt hole into the water jacket, can take early or late
heads. The price of the block is $ 1500. Hope this helps.

Can be purchased from Halibrand I believe www.halibrand.com
