So far, so good. I spent Saturday getting the
valves (cold) adjusted. I'll have to do it again
once I get the thing running. I got the timing
cover back on, the harmonic balancer on, the
headers bolted back in place, and the intake
bolted on. I had all that done by ten AM. I then
began to fiddle with the fuel pump - a Carter
NASCAR mechanical with AN 10 and AN 12 fittings
in place. That will gets fed from a stock fuel
tank, and then feeds a Carter AFB. Hmmm - I've
got six connections and six different sizes! !
The stock fuel line from the tank should feed
enouigh gas, but I've got some 1/2" if it needs
it later.
>From 10:01 AM until after dinner, I leaned over
the fender, sat on the floor, mounted a bar stool
in front of the workbench, and generally studied
and engineered all the hookups for the fuel
system. I'm using a large, spin-on remote fuel
filter from a Mercruiser race boat that my
brother had. It's just about the size of a
remote oil filter, but all the guts and fittings
are unique. I searched every car parts store and
even a major fuel injection shop for a
replacement cannister without luck. Purly by
chance, surfing the internet, I come accross a
site for Mercruiser and lo and behold, Merc has
their own threads! I call the local Bayou
Fishing Emporium and sho nuff, he's got filters,
right up the street here!
Anyhow, what I'm getting at, is with two months
still to go, I was able to just relax and
undertake this re-engineering at my own pace.
Surprising how relaxing the task itself turned
out, unlike what usually happens when there's
still ten days work to be done the night before
loading for the races.

Moral of the story, I started getting ready for
my next race the minute I rolled the car off the
trailer from the last race. I have been working
on it very steady, and it looks like it will take
every avaiable minute to have it ready in time -
- - and the two races are seven months apart!
But, without a rush, even the things that go
wrong and don't fit can be fun and relaxing.

Bits and Pieces coming together.
