Yep, .100" is a ton of clearance. When we build a 4 1/2" stroke flathead
with stock rods the aim is to get the crank to turn without hitting the cam
or the block. Never mind measuring.

Larry,
I don't use aluminum rods, but the clearance you mentioned sounds
fine
to me. I try for a minimum of about .060" on my Cunningham rods and
cast-iron
