Hi list,

I'll try to answer some of the questions asked and voice some of the
concerns I now have about the '60's dragster project. We moved to
Oroville from Reno. I bought the dragster in Reno about a year and half
ago. It was sitting in the corner of a friends hot rod shop (Tom
Johnson's -- Custom Rod Creations) where it was going to have the front
end cut off to create a new dragster. Well, I thought it would be a
shame to destroy a "piece of history", so I bought it with not much of a
clue as to what I'd do with it. (Does this sound familiar to any
one?). Found out later(of course) that it had been tech inspected by
NHRA and of course did not pass. Since I figured that drag racing was
so much more violent on the equipment than LSR, that maybe it might work
in that arena. It was mostly the chassis I believe that was the NHRA
problem. The roll cage had been updated and I think was ok. What I'm
hearing from the list is that the SCTA inspection may be more critical
than the NHRA.

It does have very fast steering. Pretty severe caster (too me anyway)
also. I haven't been able to trace who built it. It was thought by
previous owners that it was one of Gordon Collet's ("Collecting Collet")
cars. The NHRA tech inspector (who lives in Oroville by the way) traced
him down in Ohio and we sent him photos and bottom line was that it
wasn't his. Others in Reno thought it might be a Kent Fuller car. I
Haven't disproved that one as yet. Is it reasonable for me to assume
that if it can't be NHRA certified that it doesn't have a chance at SCTA
certification? The answer to that may help me decide if it makes since
to bring it to El Mirage for an inspection. I'm not sure I want to
totally rebuild it to race on the salt. Sounds like a daunting and
expensive task. Maybe I should look into doing the Camero for the salt.
Thanks for all the suggestions and comments and warm welcome's from the
list. Great bunch of people! I will put something on the salt!
