Thanks for the report. That bit about the tent pegs sounds very
encouraging.

Subject: location

Hi, over the years the course has had to be moved. The last few years the
International Course has be unusable due to incursion of I believe it is
Magnesium salts, (also this is the lowest place and the last to dry out).
The material came from the barrow and possibly dike material used by Reilly.
This material causes the salt to be crumbly and not stand up. So every year
A couple reps come from SCTA, usually Bob Higbee and someone else who has
been doing this forever and USFRA sends Larry Volk or Gary Allen or Rick
Vesco
or one of our people who has been doing this for years and they go out and
determine where the salt appears to be thickest and hardest, where the
pressure ridges are not as prevalent, and where we can get the longest
straight shot. To fix those pressure ridges is a real challenge---our
volunteers should be commended. Then they start dragging and prepping the
course. If you will notice since the pumping project started the salt has
become harder. We are almost back to drilling our tent stakes in instead of
pounding them.
The last few years the course has ended up very close to the same place.
Wheel packing does seem to extend from year to year and help. The course is
laid out and prepared wide enough that all of us can move around if the
starting line
or middle doesn't hold up. Each year just before the race surveyors are
sent out to measure in the new mile markers. Hope this info helps.

P.S. forgot to take the pesky trailer off the first time!
