For your information...

Long range, 7 day forecast for the Salt Lake City area ... not the
Bonneville salt flats 120 miles away ... is for temperatures moving into the
100's and a 20-40% chance of thunderstorms. The storms usually are
triggered by the cooling effect of the mountains to the east of the city.

Bring your sunscreen, shade and lots of liquids.

The freeway work around the valley is winding down. You can go west on
I-80, through Salt Lake City and north on I-15 through the valley with no
delays. The trick is to REALLY pay attention to the road signs. Coming
from Wyoming on I-80 you get onto I-15 north for a very short time, just a
couple of miles. Take the directions from I-15 north to the AIRPORT exits
which also are the I-80 connecting exits if there is a question. Once away
from I-15 you are on I-80 with no stops to make before the salt unless you
need gas. Gas prices in the valley are $1.47 - 1.49 for regular at most
stations. The premium grades move up in 10 cent increments.

There is a Chevron station a block away from the freeway at 2100 South with
good access for trucks with long trailers. It's right across the road from
a 24 hour Home Depot store. Watch the signs closely to find that exit. You
can get off and on there but it is a somewhat abrupt move to get off there
from the "spaghetti bowl" interchange of I-80 and I-15. Watch for
directions to 2100 South, 1300 South, 900 South exits coming from the south
or east. There is also a Truckers Travel Plaza off I-215 at California
Avenue with easy off-on access and you go from there to westbound I-80 with
ease. Chevron, Sinclair stations there.

There is construction on I-80 at the Lakepoint-Tooele exit 30 miles west of
SLC. The re-paving across the salt flats should be about finished. Some
short slow down periods there from time to time the last time I went west to
Wendover a month ago.

For those coming through Ely from California ... I only know that there are
long stretches of straight roads and it's boring and watch out for the low
speed limits between Ely and the next fifteen miles to the north.

Hope this helps.
