Thanks Wes, when we heard the news, we wondered about the proximity to the
salt.

Subject: Amtrack crash on salt flats

This is as of 8:00 Thursday morning.

An Amtrack train and a freight train have crashed 12 miles East of Wendover
on the tracks that parallel I-80. There were 263 passengers on the Amtrack
train. Injuries appear to be minor. No deaths are reported. There are two
huge propane tanks on the freight train. These are the concern at this
early time. The report I am monitoring says there were flames coming from
one of the Amtrack cars.

This would be near the point where the major canal along the east side of
the racing surface is accessed by Reilly and the brine is pumped into the
evaporation ponds South of the railroad and freeway.

No danger to the salt surface and a pretty good separation from the freeway
at that point as well. The freeway has not been closed where it passes the
site of the wreck.
