Industrial CVTs have been around for years but their size & weight are
prohibitive for automobile applications. "Machine Design" magazine has run a
number of articles on them in years past if anyone is interested in the
details of how they work. That Speedvision writer is a victim of his
Spellchecker-- it's "shear", not "sheer."
Didn't a little Dutch car-- the "Daff"-- use a belt- driven CVT?

Did FIM ban those 12+ speed transmisions of the '60s?
I saw a 10 speed factory 125 (F-1) run at Willow around '62-'64. Yamaha 250
TD-1's were no competion. It lapped the field as I remember. Ask Vesco
he was running a TD-1 or TD-1B.
