Remember that the Bonneville Salt Flats are surrounded by desert.  The
humidity is going to be a third or less of what you are used to on the East
Coast.  That and evaporation are a huge factor.  You can plan on at least
3/8 of an inch or more of standing water disappearing from the salt surface
in a 24 hour period during the hot summer months.  That doesn't make things
more humid either, it just evaporates that fast.  Terry Nish has mist
nozzles spraying water into the air around his pits.  That's one reason
there are so many people hanging around there.  The port-a-potties are in
place at the start area too so don't let anonymous bike riders give you
cause for concern ... they have been known to relieve themselves into the
oil in their bikes.  Perhaps it's the nitrous oxide they're breathing.
