Just returned from the monthly USFRA meeting.

I asked Monte Widdison (Vice-President and starter) about the salt
conditions. He, Gary Allen and Reed Gee had been with the SCTA/BNI guys
when they selected the course and started dragging. He said that they had
laid the course out and dragged along the old route of the International
Course - Hot Rod Course. Picked the best route through the crunchies. The
start lines will be north of the end of the access road by about a mile.
The short course will go to the right side of the remote weather station
with the station on the inside of the vee. They are deciding on the
possibility of two way record runs.

The dragging was having a tough time with the pressure ridges and they ended
up dragging across the course to knock them down. Rick Vesco said the
course was very hard and dry and they had found a way to cut the surface to
smooth and level it out. It sounds like you will be leaving black marks on
the full length of the course if you have tire spin.

The long range, seven day forecast is for highs in the low nineties with a
50/50 chance of some rain through Tuesday along the Wasatch Front where the
major Utah population is located. Some additional clouds coming in on
Thursday but no major rain forecast. Sounds like a very normal early August
weather forecast for Speed Week.

Drive carefully and we will see you on the salt.
