Wally told us about the first spin on the salt in 1949.  He was driving one
of Bill Burke's tanks.  He claims that spin validated the reason for running
on the salt.  Nothing to run into and the car stayed on all fours.

He did comment that it was always an adventure driving one of Bill's cars.
Seems that there was a sure thing of a fire at the end of the run whether it
was on the lakes or at Bonneville.  Of course Bill was within hearing an
that may have been the punch line of a long standing joke.
