John makes a very good point on to high a flow rates, it will draw air in the 
weld zone. I remember years ago welding at a nuke plant on carbon steel pipe 
and was getting porosity in some of the welds using a small cup about a 4 or 
5. An old welder said to try and turn down the gas flow and see what happens, 
he was right on the money no more problems. They make what is called a gas 
lens which gives better coverage but I never used them much but some people 
swear by them. Larry Mac
