Most of what I have been reading indicates that 4130 is 'stronger' but 1020
is 'tougher' - seeming to indicate that the 1020 will absorb more crash
energy by bending than the 4130.  I only meant brittle in a relative sense -
not to imply that normalized 4130 is brittle.
 
I'd like to build a motorcycle streamliner for one of the smaller
displacement classes, thus my queries on 4130 vs.1020.  At this point,
considering that the complete vehicle will be fairly light, I am leaning
toward 1020.  I was thinking about using 4130 for the plate on the top of
the roll bars - and that triggered my question.
 
At this point I'll stay with a single steel variety - jury still out on
which variety.
 
Do you have a strong opinion (or mild recommendation) either way?
