Besides, I'm not so sure that the drop is assuming the perfect shape.  I think 
it's a compromise on Mother Nature's part.  What shape would it assume if there 
was no surface tension in the water.  What shape would a drop of alcohol 
assume?  Remove all that surface tension and I'll bet that nature's drop would 
end up shaped a lot more like Jacks car - - without bulges for tires, driver 
and motor!
