I have a very early Hilborn FI unit on the flathead that I'm putting in
my roadster. the fuel distribution to the nozzles is through eight short
rubber (synthetic) fuel lines. Must these be replaced with braided lines
or are "proper" synthetic fuel lines sufficient

The fuel lines that came with your unit are OK. to use provided they are in
good condition, free of cracks, fraying, etc.
There is no need to replace them with braided hoses.
