Hit the end of the access road and was met with miles of water.
There was standing water past the pits for World of Speed. They are using
the "Hot Rod" course.
The area is dry but the first mile was rough according to reports I got
from drivers.
That said, Terry Nish (Mike was the driver) was in impound with the 998
'liner after a 360 mph run. John Raines was there too as was Rick Yacoucci,
the red and black roadster from Race Deck and several other cars and bikes
when I left the pit area around noon. Tom Bryant had made a run 1 mph over
the record but preferred to spend the day working on the car hoping to pick
up additional speed. Betty Burkland lost a blower belt and they were having
transmission problems (spragues?), the Rochlitzer Raspberry Rocket made a
record qualifying run in the 270 range, and I think Seth Hammond ad a fast
run too but I missed the time because of a car starting up right next to me.
Gary Allen had a good run in the Higginbotham liner, John Raines driving the
2004 Cadillac turned 167 then Glen said on the radio that there was smoke
coming from one of the exhaust pipes.
The last I saw of Turbo Rick he was a spectator at the start area, talking
on the phone to Jack Costella, berating him for not coming to the meet,
Gail Tesinski had a 174 mph run in the chopped Stude. (former Burklands car)
and they will be tipping the nitro for her next run.
Oh yes, the Amo boys ... how does a 220 out the back door sound? Joe still
is having problems with the blower. Jon Wennerberg was second in line to
run tomorrow morning after record runs when I headed for home. They
stopped running cars at around six.
The weather was in the high 50's and low 60's, broken clouds and very little
breeze. Perfect for racing. Only one spin ... a roadster (what else is
new) and people seemed to be returning to the get ready line rather
speedily. Dan Warner was getting primed for tomorrow, Glen had things going
well between clean up sweeps of the course. One sit on bike turned 235, The
yellow Crosley picked up 4 mph ... and would appreciate suggestions for
getting more speed from those of you who raced that CoBra engine.
Saw Steve Pitt and a couple of friends, Gary laRonge was helping Skip H. and
Mitech Mike was there with the Kugel coupe.
