Tom,
I remember when Karol Miller really got everybody's attention at the salt
in the late 50's.
The Santa Maria, CA area had a pretty impressive 56 Ford that Bob
Joehnck(sp) of Santa Barbara built a E8"block for. The car, called the
Long-Dog had a
Daschund(sp) painted down the entire length of the car with the words "The
Longest Deal In Town" and was sponsored by Patterson Ford and driven by one of
their salesmen. The car was all-steel and ran just over 100MPH in "C" gas at
the
local drags. The competition then was back in the 80MPH 1/4 mile speed, so
the Patterson Ford Long-Dog would match race the winners of Gas""
and
B"" Gas at the conclusion of eliminations every meet, usually beating them
badly.

As I recall the Patterson people took the car to Bonneville about that
time and were soundly trailered by Karol Miller.
Do you have recollections on the subject Tom?
