It all depends.
If they have been lubed every 2000 - 4000 miles, usually any lever type
will work.
If they haven't been lubed in a long time, you'll need a 10,000 psi gun
or if you
can find one, a grease injector that looks like an impact screw driver
but is
a grease gun that you put on the fitting and hit with a small sledge hammer.
Rarely, that won't work and you have to disassemble and clean everything.

OBTW -- step one = replace old fitting.
