List,

Maxton (30/04 - 01/05) .

Maxton was a small meet with some rain interruption, yet by Sunday the sun
was strong.

Keith behaved as well as could be expected for the occassion - apart from
the lack of a formal speech on the subject of "that favourite international
racing organisation" ...... he ribbed me in front of everyone he could
about the FIA! Have to say the So Al 2 race car ran well on the run I saw.

Got to meet many of the racers including the SNART team members.

Further news to follow on discussions held after the meeting over a few
beers at the Pine Acres.

Wendover (02/05 to 08/05).

The only powered run was at an average 189 mph when Mark checked out the
highway.

Many of you followed our activity on US93A using the internet and the small
number of press reports, so the outcome will not be a shock. All personnel
have returned home safely, but the car is on its way to Detroit for ABB.
It will be safe now the smoke has been let out!

Having the whole of the attempt organisation in place and then not to see
the car move under its own power on the official days was a great shame.
Could it have been the date - 05.05.05? The smoke (yes with a hint of
flame) was from 'sacrificial parts' that protect the remainder of the drive
system. No news provided to me by the tecnical folk as to the reasons for
'no motion' but there were many theories!

Many disappointed folk around on each of the run days ...... including
Dale representing the Pahrump clan.

The Open Road Racers voted 'e=motion' as their choice of best at the car
show on Saturday afternoon in the Montego Bay parking lot, after we called
to an end this USA attempt campaign.

Cannot say when the Primetime team will try again with this car.

Water on the salt flats was being added to when Jane and I left Wendover on
Tuesday morning - just light compatred with the rainfall in SLC. On Monday
the water started to be visible on each side of the causeway road from 0.7
miles before the end of the road. Depth has to be a couple of feet at
about twenty feet out from the sign. Did not go paddling as it was too
cold. Without getting up high the full extent of coverage could not be
determined - seems to be a lot to evaporate. Hope it does clear - the
winds were strong but the air temperature was not high. Perhaps I should
have taken the electric boat over.

More to follow - if you want it, after the jet lag is overcome.

Thanks to all our US friends at both racing locations.

Regards,
Malcolm Pittwood, Derby, England.
