David,

During 1961 & '62, while I was president of the SCTA, we did several
timing sessions for Andy. He was promoting the Paxton Supercharger, first
for Chrysler, we timed the Chrysler 300 at the Palm Springs Airport and at
Riverside Raceway and the 1962 Plymouth, timed at Jean Nevada on the old
highway.

We also timed the Paxton Supercharged Avanti at Jean Nevada, south of Las
Vegas for Andy. It was a publicity session prior to the introduction of
the Avanti. As I remember, it ran 172 MPH.

In 1962, Granitelli had the Avanti entered in D/Gas Supercharged (#59) and
E/Gas Supercharged (#60). No indication of records set, however.

Bill Burke/Mel Chastian also ran an Avanti in 1963 in E/Gas Supercharged
(Open record) and set the record at 147.367 MPH. Pisano Bros./Warren Biggs
Chevy set the record in D/Gas Supercharged at 179.071 MPH in 1963 (Chevy
powered '53 Stude).

I don't know how you would certify that it is a Granitelli car unless it
still has the #59 or #60 on it..
