Joe, Lance;

Another interesting character in that era was an unlikely OSS operative
by the name of Moe Berg. This second- string major- league baseball
player (catcher) was sent to a attend physics meeting in Switzerland
where Heisenberg was scheduled to deliver a paper on nuclear physics; if
he mentioned anything about achieving fission, Berg was to stand up and
shoot him dead with the pistol he carried in his pocket. Heisenberg
didn't say anything regarding the German effort to achieve nuclear
fission and lived.

The book was "The Catcher Was A Spy" or something like that.

Read the same book, very interesting---there was a long running stage
play
(also done on PBS) about what Heisenberg was really up to when he
visited
Niels Bohr in Copenhagen in the middle of WWII.
