I haven't worried about "shelf life" of diesel before now -- and am
interested, I guess, in seeing if there's any need to do so with the
newest fuels. Our old semi tractor, for instance, has fuel in the
tanks that's a couple of years old. We don't run the truck other
than for "exercise" -- a few miles every four or six months. It
starts and runs just dandy with the old stuff in it. Until the
question was raised I wouldn't have given degradation any further
thought.

Since diesel doesn't have much in the way of volatile components (vs.
gasoline) that'd evaporate -- making ignition more difficult, maybe
-- I'd guess that it'll stay good for quite a while, whether the new
ultra-low sulphur or not. Gasoline -- yes, we know that gets old,
even with Sta-Bil, but I don't think so for diesel.

Maybe Sparky can add some information to this question. I wonder if
Rick gold (ERC) has anything to add? Whatever, the fuel in my pickup
and my road trucks seldom lasts more than a few days, so the question
is of intellectual interest only to me.
