Yesterday I witnessed something that I'll bet you none of you have
ever done. Never!

I was driving my pickup down the road and saw the odometer turn to
140,000 miles. No biggie, hey? Well, maybe -- but this is the THIRD
time I've seen it turn to 140,000 miles!

I've got an '04 GMC 3/4 ton pickup that had about 147,000 miles on
the clock. Around the time we went to Maxton in October I got a
letter from GM saying that some of this series of trucks have been
developing issues with the instrument cluster -- the gauges go all
askew. Sure enough, the next time I drove the truck not a gauge
moved, and the odometer showed 98,000 miles. A few weeks later the
dealer installed the replacement IC and it showed something like
139,000 when I got it back. I drove it for a couple of weeks, saw it
turn to 140,000 again, and also noticed that one of the illuminators
behind the speedo didn't work. The dealer said they'd have to
replace the whole damn thing to fix that one light bulb/fiber optic
-- and when the did that I got an odometer showing 139,xxx miles.

So yesterday it turned 140,000 for the third time. If that were real
miles, just think -- i'd have over 2 million miles on the truck.
That'd be something like 535 round trips to Bonneville from Marquette.
