Greetings: Copper anneals the opposite way of iron/steel. In a dark room, heat evenly the copper washer until it just starts to glow and IMMEDIATELY drop it into water. This will soften the copper. After softening, place a piece of 1000 or finer grit paper on a dead flat surface and rub the washer on it to remove any old burrs. If there a alot of burrs or you need to remove some metal, start with 300 and work up to 1000. I've done this also to brake sealing washers, etc. Blake |
