I'm piggybacking on Scott Allen's original question--I have a '53 TD with
the "old" non-removable thermostat, and would love to replace with a
removable unit, which as we all know is 1/10 the cost. That is, I think
it's the old one, as the thermostat was "missing" when I bought the car.
Inside the pipe, near it's bottom, is a 1/2" wide X 1/8" thick irregular
strip of metal that transects the opening with a 3/16" hole drilled in the
strip. (These are approximate measurements) Do I just pop an $8.00
thermostat into it? Does this sound like an owner modification to you
experts?
I'd like to get a cabin heater for the car--it's "plumbed" for one, so I
know I need a thermostat. Additionally, should I buy the J.C. Whitney
heater?
