| Matt,
I was able to get my stock Buick starter out and back in from underneath
without a problem.
(I had to remove it because I broke the solenoid when I installed the engine).
I took my starter to a rebuild guy just to make sure the starter was in top
condition before
I installed the engine. He replaced bearings, brushes, and installed a
solenoid (the one I
broke). The cost was less than $50. When I put the starter on his counter he
immediately
recognized the application and made a comment to me about not getting an
exchange unit.
Apparently these are very rare, and there are few available, he suggested as
long as I had a
"known quantity" I should have it rebuilt ... of course that's his business but
I think he
was making a sincere comment.
