Mileage

I did a 540 km trip yesterday to watch my girls rowing crew race at 
London (Ontario).  Two up in my MGB GT Rover 3.5L V8 - So I did a 
fuel consumption calculation.  Doing 100-120km down nice highways I 
calculate at 7.4 litres per 100km - which is 38 miles to the 
gallon.   I am really taken aback - is this normal, or have I miscalculated?
