I apologize if this topic has been covered already (I'm a
recent subscriber and I've only caught the colortune portion of the SU
vs. Weber thread). I would like to solicit opinions (from personal
experience preferably) on the pros & cons of the two types of carbs
(namely the HIF's and the DGV (downdraught)). I have heard conflicting
opinions regarding reliability, maintainance, performance and fuel
efficiency.

            I'm a recent first-time owner of a B with a newly installed
DGV with which I'm not perfectly happy. What is the proper set-up for
the carb? I assumed that the vacuum connection to the advance timing
unit and the PCV connection are necessary (but I was told otherwise).
How hard is it to find the proper jets for a used/rebuilt unit and what
are the worst consequences for improper jetting assuming everything else
is working properly when the unit was installed. Should the timing
angle be different from the factory spec. Note: the emissions control
had been removed on this car ('70 Engine No.18V672Z). Also what should
the cost be for a rebuilt HIF and DGV. As an aside, how much should new
lever shock absorbers cost (I think my rear one's are going - they are
giving a new meaning to 'live' axle).

To any B owners in the Toronto region on this list, please
recommend some good reliable and reputable service and parts providers
in the area.

Any response would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in
advance.
