What clearance did you measure with the plastigauge?
When you assemble the bottom end of an engine you should be able to turn the
crank on its own very easily - only a few lbs/ins of torque - even a crank and
rods should turn when only a few lbs/foot of torque is used. If the torque gets
above 10 lbs/feet per litre then some thing is machined or assembled wrong.
If the plastigauge indicated the correct clearance - say between .0002 and
.0025 thou then it should turn. If you used too much assembly lube it would
just squeeze out of the bearing.
The only engine I've ever had a hand in assembling that wouldn't turn easily
had damaged big end journals - always fit the rods and pistons first!!!!!!
