The scratches left by windshield wipers is usually so deep that while you
can polish out the scratch it effectively changes the thickness of the glass
so much at that point that it causes a very distracting imperfection in
visibility at that point of the screen. A bit like looking through a pair
of bifocal glasses at the point where they change - although nothing like
that severe a change.

Cracks in laminated windscreens can usually be repaired, Denise, provided
they are attended to before dust or moisture penetrates the crack. The
process involves drilling a very small hole through one of the laminates and
then injecting an expoxy into the crack. It flows down the crack and the
crack disappears before your eyes. A fascinating and usually very effective
process. Here in Oz people with the equipment will come to your home to do
the job or there are workshops who specialise in it. The cost would equate
to about $US20 a crack.

Regards and Merry Christmas
