If your distributor is completely retarded and you are still 25 degrees
advanced, try backing each spark plug wire on the cap by one position.  Then
advance the distributor until you are within spec.  That should solve your
problem.  As for the carb, if all the emissions controls are off, and you
don't have to pass an emissions test where you live, put a downdraft weber
carb and manifold on.  They are easy to adjust and they stay in adjustment.
