I need some help with carb adjustments for a 1980 MGB (Stromberg 175 CD 5T).
The original
problem was the automatic choke. It had a low idle when cold and increased as
it warmed up,
then went back to near normal when fully warm. It also had a rough idle. So I
pulled the carb,
cleaned it well, replaced the gaskets and needle valve. Now, it does not start
as readily or go into
high idle when cold (also sputters a bit) but idles pretty well (900-1000) when
warm. I must have
goofed up something. Going by the procedures in the Haynes manual ( page 84,
section 32 and
page 86, section 33), everything seemed ok except I'm not sure about the
following:
o Turning the fine idle screw doesn't seem to do anything. Since I don't
have an exhaust
gas analyzer, should it adjusted to the mid range (2.5 turns out)?
o Where/how should the index marks on the heat mass and choke body be
aligned?
o Why won't it go into fast idle when cold?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.
