BSP thread designation; NO LBC content

I hope that someone in the UK or down under can help me and I apologize
to the rest for bombing this list.

I just bought a dishwasher. It is a Regency VSA made in Austraila. The
inlet water hose has a female 1 inch BSP. There is a warning that it is
not 1 inch NPT (national pipe thread). I examined it and the thread
pitch is the same as 1" NPT but doesn't have the taper. Can anyone provide more 
info on what BSP stands for and the details?
