Ahem, for the record: for the last three or four years, I've had two
offices, 3 miles apart. Most of what I need to do work is at one office,
and my teaching assignments, students, and meetings are at the other.
Although I try to cluster meetings and classes, I inevitably find myself
with half hour and hour segments that are difficult to use productively.
Either what I need to work on is at my other office, or the time I
have is too short to get started on something, so I check email.
It is a lousy system. I did not design it, however; in fact I argued
against it. It gives me time to read email during the day, but I have to
work longer hours to compensate.
For anyone worried about my employer, I will just say that I'm not
efficient, but I am hell for persistent.
