Hello David:

5 main MGBs first showed up in 1965 model year. While the 5 bearing
engine is an improvement, there is really nothing to fear with the
three-main block. Some racer types complained of "crankshaft whip" at
sustained high speeds, the factory listened and developed the 5 bearing
engine.

1965 to 1967 are desirable years (so are the rest from '62 -'80) for the
MGB for several reasons: the 5 main engine; highest factory horsepower
and no federal emissions controls; chrome bumpers; no side marker
lights; eared knock-offs (as the Good Lord intended) for wire wheel
cars; optional OD; and many incremental upgrades accrued since 1962.

Good luck,
