Is it likely that any MG model will be included in the list of nominations
for The Car of the Century which is to be announced at the end of 1999
after votes are taken from a panel of 100 international motoring
journalists?

Some early nominations from an article appearing in our local press:

Ford Model T Henry Ford recogonised before anyone else that cars should not
be the prized possessions of the rich, but should be developed
for mass transportation. Introduced teh assembly line to make
                good, cheap cars.

VW What other car has crossed all borders, both political and
social, being continuously built since the 1940's with no
fundamental changes, been built on all continents (except
Antartica, where it was the first vehicle registered) Formed
the basis of thousands of kit cars (from beach buggies to
                Mercedes replicas to Formula Vee)

Austin 7 For its use of aluminium in both its engine and body.

Austin A40 When Lord Nuffield, sold the blueprints and specifications of
the A40 to Japanese interests in the mid 1950's, the Japanese
                motoring industry began in earnest.

Or perhaps something more esoteric? Hans Tholstrup's 'Solar - One' of the
mid '80's?

Or are we closing nominations too early? Is the Car of the Century yet to
surface?....perhaps the MGF?

Regards

Paul
