Had many broken axle shafts racing, the quick and dirty stub removal used
booster cables and 3 feet of 1/4 steel rod. Insert the rod into the axle
housing and with the inner end in contact with the broken stub tap the outer
end with the hot booster cable from the battery. Rod sticks to stub,
pullout broken stub. Yes, I know what this does to bearings but as a young
racer getting it fixed quickly was more important. This works very well but
it's your rear end!
