Whenever I'm faced with your problem at work (I'm a millwright), I
usually end up using a pair of 10" curved jaw ViseGrips. Don't bother
using a clone, because unless you're lucky, the jaws won't stay parallel
under the stress, and you'll round off the plug even more.

If you can't get the real ViseGrips to hold, you'll have to file two
parallel flats on whatever's left of the plug. Take your time to do it
properly, and you'll save time in the long run.

As an absolute last resort, prior to drilling the plug out, a hammer and
dull chisel might move it. Wear eye protection, and DON'T try it with a
light hammer; you need the weight to keep the plug moving. I'd suggest
a 2 or 3 lb. club hammer and a 1" chisel.
