Hi Bruce. I live in Santa Rosa, CA. It's about an hour north of San
Francisco. I've owned 5 MGB's since high school (graduated in '71). My
first was a '66 B w/wires and knock-off hubs. I should have kept it, but at
the time I didn't realize I was hooked on the cars just yet. I believe with
the abscence of the first car my yen for them grew. I purchased my 2nd car
in 1987. It was a '78 w/35000 miles on it. After about a month it became
clear that what I wanted was a pre-rubber bumper car; something similar to
my old '66. I sold the 2nd car a month after I bought it for slightly more
money than I paid for it.

The next year I found a neighbor selling an early '74 B. I bought it from
him. The body needed a little work but it ran pretty good. After realizing
that I would have to learn to do regular routine maintenance if I were to
keep this car, I decided to try it. About 6 months later I found a parts
car in the newspaper which was only about 2 months different from mine in
age. The ad read "complete" and was priced at $200. I couldn't pass it up.
It was dirty; had sat for 10 years w/no engine under some pine trees, was
full of branches and dirt, but the body was in better shape than mine. The
guy had the engine in pieces in his garage. Most of the parts were there;
enough to attempt to combine both cars into one nicer one.

My latest acquisition was a '71 BGT a couple miles from me for $400. It was
also a parts car. But, the part that was worth the price was the overdrive
transmission which I had wanted for a long while.

So, in a manner of speaking, I've owned 5 B's. Three of them were actually
driveable cars. My '74 B is almost a daily driver. I just don't drive it
when there is a threat of rain. I want to keep it relatively moisture free
for the rest of its life.

Thanks for asking,
