David,

When my angle drive went out it also worked when removed from the trans.
What I found was the cable that sticks out of it and goes into the trans
was rounded a little - and I mean a very little. It was slipping inside
the trans. I got a used one from another list member and now works fine.
It had me stumped for quite awhile as it worked and the wear on the
cable was so minor it was hardly detectable. If I had it to do over I
would probably go with others suggestions and just get an O/D cable and
not put the angle drive back in.
