took the 73 b on its first extended run on the interstate this morning
to attend a meeting of the southeastern british motorcar owners club
(sbmoc--where were you rick???). i'm happy to report that the car
performed wonderfully on this 180-200 mile round trip. stayed between
3000-3500 rpms with the overdrive engaged for the entire trip (the
speedometer doesn't work, but i think between 65-75 mph). in the cool
of the early morning, the temp gauge stayed below normal--in the heat of
the early afternoon, the gauge read closer to normal, but still remained
a bit below the 'n'. the oil is still at the 'full' mark on the stick,
and i burned just a bit more than half-a-tank of gas. not bad
considering that until i purchased the car 2 months ago, it had been
sitting under a shed for 3-4 years. i had one slight mishap with the
exhaust pipe, but that's due to a half-assed repair i made to patch a
hole--i'm planning on installing a new exhaust pipe/muffler this week.

met quite a few interesting people and saw some beautiful cars--
bugeyes, b's, midgets, a healey 3000, tr's, even a delorean. all in
all, a great saturday.

-robert williford (sending a grateful prayer of thanks to mowog for a
73 mgb good trip, and a request for leniancy--usu. when
one dares comment on good fortune with lbc's,
something goes wrong the next day...)
