1952 MG TD Transmission problems

Have been assisting a friend with her '52 TD.  This is a lovely little
car that has been in her family for a number of years but it has a sick
transmission.  First gear is basically inoperative - feels like about
1/3 of the teeth on the cluster gear are missing!  Funny enough, reverse
works better, but it still has a pronounced jump to it.  (Significant
understatement here....)

Would like to know availability of rebuilt T-series transmissions,
and/or references to qualified technicians who could do a rebuild on the
existing box.  Am somewhat appalled by the price (Moss) of a new cluster
gear.  Is that for real?
