Hi Lindsay,
  From what I have been able to determine, there is supposed to be fuel
inside the sender, though it's an intimidating thought to me that fuel is
in contact with the electrical switch. Leaks I have had to deal with were
between the cover and the switch body. There should be a gasket, and I
found it necessary to glue it in with Permatex.
