I don't know about Symptom #2, but Symptom #1 sounds strangely similar to
the way Darlinl' sounds just before she runs out of petrol... scary
sounds.... like you're gonna be buying a new engine. So... I would suspect
something carb or fuel-delivery related....

[FYI: Darlin's gas gauge is a red, 2-1/2 gallon gas can! With a
disfunctional speedo --parts are here, no time to put them in -- and,
therefore, no odometer, sometimes I misjudge distance travelled since the
last visit to the Chevron station.]
