I think brake cleaner is the best choice here.  It dries quickly and leav=
es
no residue.  The propane torch idea will leave a layer of
ash/soot/carbon/crud.  If you can get your hands on a comercial solvent
like trichloroethane 1,1,1 or "Ensolve" that would be even better!
